CERES PROGRAM
ACT’s (Artistic Collective of Terranauts) first project is Ceres program, an ongoing research project with the aim of showing people how beautiful our Earth is by letting them experience the Overview Effect.
Just as astronauts in space see how beautiful and fragile our Earth is, Ceres shows this without leaving without its surface. The project is a fictional space program that is divided into missions, each mission a series of documentary style images exploring the surface of a potentially habituated planet that could be a home for the future of humanity.

When astronauts see Earth from a distance in space they often realise everything is connected. The borders we draw on maps are not visible on Earth and there is nothing other than our planet for us to live on.
This is called the Overview Effect, the experience of seeing firsthand that the Earth in space is a tiny fragile little ball of life, hanging in the void, shielded and nourished by a paper-thin atmosphere. The Overview Effect often transforms the astronaut’s perspective on the planet and humanity’s place in the universe.
On Earth however, we gain overview by taking a step back and looking around us. As Terranauts we should be living with the awareness and overview that we are all crew on a finite planet that has no source of resupply; Spaceship Earth.
